Barclays is celebrating the investment across its Branch Network by hosting a popular new competition designed to find the country’s hottest dance acts, and it’s coming to Leicester Square, London on Saturday 31 July.

The competition is open to anyone who thinks they’ve got what it takes to become Britain’s next dancing superstar, be it as an individual, duo, group or troupe.

The top ten entries will be put through to the live auditions, which will take place on Saturday 31 July on a stage at Leicester Square. These contestants will perform in front of a celebrity panel of judges that includes Strictly Come Dancing’s Brendan Cole, as well as an audience made up of the great people of London!

The top five acts will then be subject to a public vote to decide the winner via the Barclays Live website www.barclayslive.co.uk.

The winning act will be waltzing away with a pair of VIP tickets to see Brendan Cole in action as well as dancing all the way to the bank with a cool £1,000!

The Barclays Live auditions will form part of a day-long programme of events, including a dance master class by Brendan Cole and performances by a variety of fantastic dance acts.

The Hootananny is a bar/club in Brixton is known for having the best atmosphere for live music and also named by Timeout as one of the best nights south of the river. Every Friday hoards of people descend on the venue for the Ska night “Skootananny” for the mega Live Ska party night to see awesome live ska bands and to have a dance.

The night is normally free and runs from 9pm till 3am

This Friday 26 March, The Hootananny will be rocked by two great Ska bands, The Evidents and headliners Intensified this will be an awesome night with lots of dancing and energy. The Evidents are a new 7 piece Ska band from London who play 2 tone, trad and thridwave with rock and a hint of reggae. Intensified have an irresistible dance beat, with original ska and reggae, superbly crafted tunes, corporate music for the white boy ska/reggae generation. This gig is a must see for ska fans!

The Hootananny also serves delicious Thai food at very good prices and has one of the biggest beer gardens in London

Shake Rattle and Bowl is a club night with a difference. It’s held at the Bloomsbury Bowling Lanes beneath the Tavistock Hotel. It is London’s most unique retro clubnight, with dancing, bowling, cinema, diner and karaoke!

The night is not super cheap but it is different from the norm and lots and lots of fun, the music encompasses 50’s and 60’s Rock n Roll, Soul, Motown, Girl Groups, Freakbeat, Psychedelia and Ska and the venue has 50’s retro themed bowling lanes, a nice big dancefloor and stage, a diner that serves delicious 50’s themed food (the giant pizzas are amazing!), karaoke booths, table football, pool, arcade games (duck hunt) and even a free cinema.

Many of the people attending dress up in 50’s clothing for the night and really get into the swing of things.

Shake Rattle and Bowl is held on the first Saturday of every month from 7pm – 3am

The Arts Council has a new initiative in association with Metro called A Night Less Ordinary. Launched in February 2009 the scheme is giving away 1000’s of free theatre tickets for anyone under 26.

200 venues throughout the UK are participating and the events include, comedy, musical theatre, dance, plays, circus and mime as well as many many more. All you have to do is visit the site and just type in your area or postcode to search for participating theatres near you.
